Montgomery Transport Group’s Managing Director Steven McBride to Make History with Everest Base Camp Trek for Cash for Kids NI

This April, Steven McBride, Managing Director of Montgomery Transport Group, will swap the logistics of the road for the rugged trails of the Himalayas. In a historic first for the charity, Steven is set to become the first person to trek to Everest Base Camp specifically in aid of Cash for Kids Northern Ireland.

Reaching an altitude of 5,364 meters, Steven will face thin air, freezing temperatures, and gruelling physical demands to raise vital funds for disadvantaged children across Northern Ireland.

A Journey for Local Impact

The mission goes far beyond the physical climb. Every penny raised through Steven’s trek will stay within Northern Ireland, directly supporting Cash for Kids Impact Grants. These grants provide a lifeline for families and children facing poverty, illness, disability, or additional needs.

The funds raised will be distributed across six key pillars of support:

  • Poverty Alleviation: Providing essentials like beds, warm meals, and school uniforms.

  • Disability & Illness: Funding specialist mobility aids and sensory equipment.

  • Mental Health: Supporting counselling and therapy programs.

  • Education: Ensuring access to learning tools and school trips.

  • Sport & Wellbeing: Helping children participate in active play and club memberships.

  • Diversity & Inclusion: Promoting equality and representation for all young people.

A Message from Steven McBride

“At Montgomery Transport Group, we have always been committed to supporting our local community, but this year I wanted to take that commitment to new heights—quite literally,” said Steven McBride, Managing Director. “I’ve navigated many challenges in the transport industry, but 5,364 meters of altitude is a different kind of logistics altogether. Being the first person to take on this trek for Cash for Kids NI is a huge honour. Knowing that every pound raised helps a local child face their own ‘uphill battle’ is what will keep me moving when the oxygen gets thin.”

Rising Demand in Northern Ireland

The challenge comes at a critical time. With rising living costs, more families than ever are turning to Cash for Kids NI for support. By taking on this record-breaking trek, Steven McBride and Montgomery Transport aim to provide not just practical equipment and funding, but also hope for a brighter future for the region’s youth.

How to Support
